Utility locating may be needed for many different reasons, but one of the major benefits is safety. By knowing where gas, electrical, and other utility lines are located underground, construction workers can take proper precautions when digging and avoid accidents.
Utility Locating Services
Serving the Permian BasinWhat is Utility Locating?
Utility locating is a method used by engineers to locate underground facilities such as water and sewer lines. This method can also be used to find facilities such as gas and electric services, conduits, and cables. When the facilities are located, they can be mapped and any safety hazards can be identified
Horizontal Locating
Horizontal locators use a high-frequency transducer to send signals through the earth. The receivers detect the sound's strength and location, which is plotted on a map. Horizontal utility lines are often used for telecommunication cables.
Vertical Locating
Vertical locators work by sending low-frequency acoustics signals through the ground. These low frequencies can penetrate more than 20 feet of earth. The receivers detect the vibrations caused by the acoustic waves which are translated into an image of buried utilities, pipes, cables, and other structures. Vertical locating is often used for gas mains and water service pipes.
