Responsibilities
- Operate HDD locating equipment for the installation of underground conduits and utilities
- Accurately steer the drill head using DCI or Underground Magnetics locate systems
- Provide directional drilling data and maintain bore profiles for customer records
- Ensure adherence to job specifications, including bend radius and tolerances
- Assist in locating and planning bores around existing utilities
- Perform setup and cleanup of worksites, ensuring no return trips are necessary
- Assist with general job duties, including manual labor and equipment operation
- Maintain professionalism with customers, the public, and crew members
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations
- Travel to various project sites as needed, up to 40% or more based on project demands
- Complete necessary job documentation, including progress reports and permits
Qualifications
- Prior experience as an HDD Locator (required)
- Familiarity with DCI or Underground Magnetics locate systems (required)
- Experience with wireline locate systems (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license (required); CDL Class A (preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months with employer assistance)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Understanding of ground conditions for drilling, boring, and locating
- Ability to operate hand tools and equipment safely
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and lift/carry up to 100 lbs with or without assistance
- Previous experience in construction, particularly in telecom or pipeline industries (preferred)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 12 hours at a time)
- Ability to lift 75 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed
- Capable of performing tasks that involve prolonged standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling
- Specific vision abilities, including color vision, distance vision, and depth perception
- Ability to tolerate work in extreme weather conditions
Working Conditions
This position operates in an outdoor environment, requiring work in varying weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat, rain, and wind. Exposure to construction sites, urban and rural environments, and potential risks such as natural gas or electrical shock is possible. Noise levels may vary from moderate to loud.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
